World Series Teams

Some teams get to the World Series and you know that they are going to win it all. Like the 1927, and 1961 Yankees. The Red Sox of 2004 and the Reds from the Big Red Machine days are a few other teams where I felt that their destiny was secure before the series started. Some teams are so strong that they win four games to none. The Yankees have done it seven times. The Giants are next closest in four games to none series wins with two sweeps to their credit. By contrast the Yankees have been swept three times, the most of any team. With the A’s, Cubs and Cardinals all being winless in series play twice.

The test for a playoff team is winning in seven games. The last game of the post season is at hand and there are NO second chances. In seven game series the team with the most wins is not the Yankees. It’s the St Louis Cardinals with seven wins followed by the Yankees with five victories. Many teams have won seven game series twice. The Twins, Dodgers, Pirates, Tigers, and A’s make up that impressive list. On the losing end the Yankees head the list with five losses. They are followed by The Giants with four seven game losses, The Dodgers, Cardinals, Tigers and Red Sox with three losses each are next.

Of the 39 World Series the Yankees have been in 10 times the series ended in four games. Eleven times the series ended in seven games.

The St Louis Cardinals have seen the World Series 16 times. Seven times they won in seven games and three times they lost in seven games. They were also swept two times.

The A’s of Philadelphia, Kansas City and Oakland have a combined 9-6 winning record when it comes to World Series play. Second to the Yankees 26-13 record. On the other end of the spectrum the Dodgers are 6-16 and the Giants are 5-15.

The teams that have gone the longest without winning a World Series are The Indians (last won in 1948) and The Giants. They have been without a Series trophy since 1954. Did I forget the Cubs? 1908 was their last World Series triumph. That’s’ 98 years ago.

The Rangers, Mariners, Nationals (Expos), and Rockies have yet to make the fall classic. While The Padres, Brewers and Astros have been to the Series, they have yet to drink the champagne for being World Series Champs.

Also of note is that the Red Sox were World Champs five times from 1903 to 1918. During that 16 year period, (there was no World Series in 1904) the five wins by the Sox, established the Bostonians as one of baseball’s initial dynasties.

Free NFL Jerseys – Fact or Fantasy?

There’s no shortage of sites on the Internet offering free stuff – NFL jerseys, Apple iPods, etc. And all they ask for is your email address. But are these offers legitimate? Will providing your email address really get you a free NFL jersey? The short answer is yes, but the complete answer is a little more complex.

First of all, these are legitimate offers. A free NFL jersey or Apple iPod could be just an email away. But these are physical products and they can’t be delivered electronically. So after you provide an email address, you’re going to have to provide a physical shipping address. You’ll be asked to provide your home address. Providing a home address is a no brainer for most football fans who want a free NFL jersey.

Of course each offer is unique. It’s normal to be presented a long list of offers where you’ll check the ones you like. You’ll see all kinds of offers from magazines to insurance to colleges. As soon as you indicate any interest in a product or service, you’ll start receiving emails. Don’t forget your email address is already on file.

Some people provide fake email addreses in an effort to reduce the emails. You can, but you won’t get a free NFL jersey. You have to agree to a certain number of offers and complete certain requirements before you’ll receive your free NFL jersey. Requirements vary depending on the offer. But a definite requirement is a valid email address and if you don’t provide one you’re not going to get a free NFL jersey.

An alternative solutions is to use a “throw away” email address especially for free offers. This would be an email address other than your primary email address. Throwaway email addresses are easy to set up. Yahoo and hotmail are just two places to set up “throwaway” email addresses. The fact is that as soon as you provide your email address, you’re going to be inundated with offers. By using a “throwaway” email address, your emails go through but you don’t have to wade through all the junk mail to get to the messages you want to read.

So the bottom line is that you can in fact get a free NFL jersey, a free Apple iPod, or whatever else is being offered free. The avalanche of offers you’ll receive is the price you pay for a free NFL jersey. The offeror is counting on making money when you spend money on the other offers.

Barca – Football Fanatic

In the late 1800’s Hans Gamper and ten other enthusiasts were playing an unidentified game called ‘foot-ball’. When Gamper went on to found Barcelona Football Club on 29 November 1899, he could hardly have imagined the momentous events that would follow. Throughout some of Catalonia’s most difficult years, the flag represented the people’s hopes for freedom, and today that very flag is the symbolic link which continues to represent the ties between a very special club and its’ supporters.

Barcelona is in the extremely enviable position of being the only team in Europe to have participated in every European Cup since 1955 the first year the tournament began. It also won the supreme continental prize. Their massive European trophy collection also includes the Cup Winners’ Cup, which the club has won no less than four times – making it undisputed king. In addition, Barca – common name for Barcelona Football club – accumulated three UEFA Cups in the 1958, 1960 and 1966 seasons. The Club retained the trophy in perpetuity after winning a special final in 1971, which paired together the first winner of the competition, FC Barcelona, against the last winner, Leeds United. However, Barca does not just reign in Europe but also in Spain, specifically in the Kings Cup, leading the ranking of winners in this competition with 24 titles.

Evidently, Barcelona reigns in Spain as well as in Europe and no other Spanish team can equal Barcelona’s 24 championship titles in the Copa del Rey. As for the Spanish championship league, Barcelona celebrates the centenary birthday with 16 league titles to its name. Six of these were amassed over the last ten years alone.

The FC Barcelona is currently a sports unit which includes basketball, handball, hockey, athletics, ice-hockey, figure skating, indoor football, rugby, baseball, volleyball and women’s football sections. The football team is the only side to have qualified for European competition every year since its inauguration in 1955. There are now a total of 105,706 members and 1,508 supporters clubs.

Over the course of 100 years, the club has lived through moments of brilliance and misfortune, through good times and bad, through epic victories and crushing defeats. Each one of these moments has contributed to shaping Barcelona into the absolutely unique club that it is today. Barcelona’s renown can be attributed, in part, to impressive statistics but another factor is certainly that Barcelona is one of the most highly decorated teams in the world. With the exception of the International Cup, the showcases of the Barcelona museum contain every trophy possible. Topping off the impressive collection is the European Cup, the crowning glory of a Wembley final that went into the history books.

FC Barcelona’s Museum is the most visited Museum in the city with the famous Picasso Museum a near second. It was set up in 1984. Year after year the museum has increased its number of visitors and become an ever more important tool for spreading the name of the club far and wide. Not only is it the best football museum in the world, it is also the most popular museum of any kind in Catalonia, regularly receiving more than 1,160,000 visitors a year, and is a reference point for many other such museums around the world.

Coaching Soccer – How To Motivate Soccer Players Or Kids

On coaching soccer, the key to motivating soccer players is to help them to motivate themselves.

First, you need to set the example. This means that you need to use the Golden Rule and speak to them the way that you wish them to speak to you and the way you hope they speak to themselves.

Using positive reinforcement will go a long way to helping players feel good enough about themselves and their soccer game to want to strive for more. How? It is really very simple. Focus on the positive things and do not focus on the negative things.

We live in a rat race society and we tend to compare ourselves to others much of the time. Children go through school constantly being compared to others and then move to their post-secondary education looking to be the best so they can receive scholarships and awards.

They want to please their parents and they want to do well. They often focus on what they did wrong or what they did not do. In the end they can feel very frustrated, angry, and can even feel like a failure and this attitude can be carried onto the soccer field.

Using positive reinforcement means focusing on the positive or what went right. There is no need to look at what a player did not do properly. You may ask, how do you help a player correct poor technique or improve their soccer game without looking at what they did improperly.

On soccer coaching, the key is to look at what they did right and say that you want to see them do it again. Instead of saying, “That was a good kick, but when you kick the ball, place your foot here,” try, “Hey, on that last penalty kick you had great follow through and made the shot. Let’s see that again and this time try placing your foot here.”

This is much more effective. Instead of feeling frustrated that they are not getting it right they will feel good about themselves for getting at least part of it right and they will be eager to do it again.

Of course there are times when they will get part of a technique right and not do something else in the proper way. Begin with pointing out the areas in which they performed well and then tell them you want to see it again with another part added in.

This way they will try again from the positive outlook that they can do it and they just need to adjust something. For example, instead of saying, “that was a good try, but when you kick the ball you need to kick through the ball. You are stopping short,” try saying, “Great kick! You foot positioning was bang on.

Now let me see it again and this time kick your foot all the way through the ball and see how much farther it will go.” Whether you are working with kids of adults, they will respond to this sort of encouragement.

It is also important to teach the players to positively reinforce their soccer team-mates and to encourage each other. In this way, players will feel even better about what they have accomplished, especially when they are nearing adolescence and their peers begin to have a greater influence on them than the adults in their lives do.

Motivating soccer players is about helping them feel good enough about themselves and what they are doing that they desire to strive for more. They will want to improve themselves and their game from the positive frame of mind that they are good players who are improving all the time, instead of feeling that they are inadequate and need to improve their game to become good enough.

Follow these tips on coaching soccer and I‘m sure you‘ll motivate your players or kids to love the game.
